CTSC-supported Investigators Develop a New Test to Predict Kidney Transplant Rejection

The Weill Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) congratulates renowned CTSC researcher Manikkam Suthanthiran, MD, and colleagues on the publication of their exciting research in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology demonstrating that assessing urinary metabolite profiles may help predict kidney transplant rejection. This development suggests a promising, noninvasive way to help improve the care of kidney transplant patients.

The CTSC has served as an effective vehicle for several of Dr. Suthanthiran’s research trainees to acquire additional skills complementary to their laboratory skills. These CTSC-supported trainees include John Lee, MD (CTSC KL2 Scholar), and Thangamani Muthukumar, MD (CTSC K30 Master’s Degree Program recipient), both co-authors on this recent publication.

While the study was published online June 5, it will be seen in the February 2016 issue of the journal. Read more about this research here.
