In the fall, the Samuel J. Wood Library & C.V. Starr Biomedical Information Center (the Weill Cornell Medical Library) hosts the Medical Complex Art Show. This show displays the works of faculty, staff, and students of the Weill Cornell Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Rockefeller University, with a virtual component including work from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar and WCMC alumni.

This year’s show will feature the artwork of Marcus M. Reidenberg, MD, Associate Program Director of the CTSC’s Clinical and Translational Education Program (CTEP); Constance Moussouris, a CTEP team member; Mark Stasiak, ME, a recent TL1 trainee; and Gary Kocharian, a CTSC Summer Fellow, who submitted a 3-D Printing piece with Du Cheng. Please join us in congratulating them on their success!

“I enjoy photography and always like to have the opportunity to have others see the photographs I am proud of,” Dr. Reidenberg said. “The Medical Complex Art Show gives me the chance to have my friends here see these pictures. Having friends see my work is always better than having it seen by strangers.”

“When I heard about the art show, I thought it would be a nice ‘extracurricular’ activity to take part in,” explained Ms. Moussouris, who works as a Program Assistant with CTEP. “When I was young, my mother would take me to art classes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and since then I’ve always gravitated towards studio art.”

Mark Stasiak has always enjoyed the art show. “Currently, I only have time for creating the surgical illustrations in our group’s journal articles,” he said. “So I decided to exhibit a self-portrait that I completed years ago during an undergrad art class at SUNY Stony Brook. This is the first time it has been shown publicly.” He thanks his late art teacher Robert W. White for encouraging his artistic abilities.

The exhibit begins on Monday, October 27, 2014, and will run until Saturday, January 31, 2015, in the library commons, main floor of the Weill Cornell Medical Library, 1300 York Avenue.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2014, the library will host an opening reception celebrating the exhibit. Dean Laurie Glimcher, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of the Weill Cornell Medical College, will help announce the winning artists. The invitation features the photography of translational science librarian Lyubov L. Tmanova, DVM, MS, MLS, who offers research support services to the CTSC.
